Zaab & State Of Soul

Zaab & State of Soul: A Musical Odyssey

Origins and Formation:

Zaab & State of Soul emerged from the vibrant musical landscape of the Netherlands in 2012. Led by singer-songwriter Zahira "Zaab" Ould-Bouali, the band fused elements of R&B, soul, and hip-hop, creating a captivating and soulful sound.

Joining Zaab on this musical journey were seasoned musicians: guitarist Bart van Dongen, bassist Erik van der Luijt, drummer Michael Prins, and keyboardist Michiel Jansen. Together, they forged a tight-knit ensemble that seamlessly blended individual talents.

Early Success and Chart-topping Hits:

Zaab & State of Soul's debut single, "When I Hold You," became an instant radio hit upon its release in 2013. The song's soulful melodies and Zaab's enchanting vocals resonated with audiences, propelling the band into the limelight.

The success of "When I Hold You" paved the way for their self-titled debut album in 2014. The album showcased the band's versatility, ranging from infectious grooves to intimate ballads. It garnered critical acclaim and propelled Zaab & State of Soul to the forefront of the Dutch music scene.

Challenges and Controversies:

Despite their early success, Zaab & State of Soul faced several challenges. In 2016, the band parted ways with their drummer, Michael Prins, due to creative differences. This setback temporarily disrupted their momentum but ultimately led to the addition of Leon Sibum as their new drummer.

In 2018, Zaab was accused of plagiarism in connection with the song "Ego." The controversy generated significant media attention and tested the band's resilience. However, the allegations were eventually dismissed, allowing Zaab & State of Soul to continue their musical journey.
